Outlook Express

Install (if necessary) and run Outlook Express.  The instructions below were written using Outlook Express version 6. These instructions will likely work for slightly older and slightly newer versions of Outlook Express as well.  The version number may be found in the Outlook Express Help menu under "About Outlook Express."

1. Click "Tools," then "Accounts." You will see a window like the one below. On this window, click "Add" then "Mail."

2. Enter your name as you wish it to appear to people you send email to, then click "Next."

3. Enter the email address assigned to you by Tigerwave. Do not use the example address shown below. Then, click Next.

4. Choose "IMAP" as the type of incoming mail server.  Use "host.tigerwave.net" for the address of both incoming and outgoing email servers.  Then, click Next.

5. As your "Account Name," again use the full email address assigned to you by Tigerwave.  Do not use only the username part of your email address. Enter your email password in the Password field.  Optionally, click the Remember password checkbox.  Do not check the SPA checkbox.  Then, click Next.

6. Click the Finish button.

At this point, there is still some configuration left to do, so for now, click "No" if you're asked if you'd like to download folders from the mail server you added.  If you click Yes, no harm will be done.

7. Now you need to perform additional configuration changes before your email account will be functional. Unfortunately, the Outlook Express email account creation wizard does not configure every necessary option.

Click on the account you just created, and click Properties. Or, go back to Tools, Accounts, select the account, and click Properties.

8. On the first General tab, change the name of the account to something you'll recognize, like "Work Email." Retype your email address in the Reply address field. You may also add the name of your organization.

9. Now click the Advanced tab. Check both boxes labeled This server requires a secure connection. Enter 465 for the Outgoing mail (SMTP) and 993 for Incoming mail (IMAP). Then click OK and close the Internet Accounts window.

If asked if you would like to download folders from the mail server you just added, click Yes. Now you are finished, and your new email account is ready to use.
